A true blast from the past is in our midst as GMC has brought back the ever-popular Hummer name for its new electric “supertruck.”

The very first 2022 GMC Hummer Electric Vehicle (EV) rolled out of the factory just yesterday (Friday). The vehicle also came off the assembly line at General Motors Factory Zero in Michigan. Production of the all-electric pickup truck is now a full go. It’s the first time since 2010 that GMC has used the Hummer line name, and it certainly has people very excited. The first model is quite sharp with its white paint job and exquisite overlay design. It is sure to be popular with car and vehicle enthusiasts as production ramps up for the electric vehicles.

The very first GMC Hummer EV VIN 001 was sold earlier this year at a charity auction for $2.5 million. It benefited the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization established to honor the memory of September 11 first responder Stephen Siller. A fully-loaded Edition 1 model has a starting price of right around $113,000. The open-top, heavy-duty pickups have three electric motors rated at a combined 1,000 horsepower with a range of right around 330 miles between charges. There will be Edition 1 units available before lower-priced options are introduced sometime in 2020. GMC says reservations for the new Hummer EV are also booked through the next year.

In an interview with CNBC, GM President Mark Reuss says the company is very excited for its customers.

“Those sold out here in a very short amount of time,” he says of the Edition 1 GMC Hummer EVs.

GM plans to build about 1,200 Edition 1 Hummers before moving to lower-priced options. Reuss says GM has about 17 of those vehicles that are ready to be sent to customers.

The response to the new electric vehicles has been positive, with many car enthusiasts expressing a desire to own one.

The company teased production of the GMC vehicle in a recent social media post that shows workers assembling the vehicle.

“The GMC Hummer EV pickup,” the post says. “Zero emissions, Zero limits, and Zero equals. Now rolling off the line at Factory ZERO.”

Social media users have plenty to say about the new GMC vehicle and the possibility of owning one in the future.

“This looks like it is going to be an amazing vehicle,” an Instagram poster says in response. “I can’t wait to see one of these in person. I would like to own an EV in the future, and this looks like something I would be interested in buying.”

“It looks great and is a real blessing to the environment for sure,” another says. “I wonder how much it will haul. That is one of the things I look for in a truck.”
