New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had a successful fishing trip to one of the Saranac Lakes on Saturday.
The 62-year-old, father of three took his daughter Cara with him to the Adirondacks, where the family frequently vacations, for a fishing trip.
The Democratic Governor posted a photo to his social media account on October 10 and saw some backlash for his wording of “Lake Saranac” instead of “Saranac Lake.”
The photos showed a smiling selfie of him and Cara, while the other featured himself holding a fish he caught. He captioned the Twitter post, “You should see the one that got away. Perfect day fishing on Lake Saranac with Cara. I (heart) New York.”
While many users also shamed the governor for not wearing a mask and for his family vacation. Some, however, said that even a man of his ranking deserves a day off.
Cuomo’s tweet already has over 800 retweets, 250 quote tweets, as well as 25.4 thousand likes.
It is unknown how long the vacation lasted, but Cuomo’s office did confirm the trip to one of the three Saranac Lakes on Monday.
Governor Cuomo’s Love for the Area
His last official trip to the region was in February for a press conference at the Hotel Saranac. The event was held to market tourism to New York’s snowmobile trail system.
In addition, Cuomo created a promotional event called the Adirondack Challenge in 2013 that invited hundreds of elected officials to the region to compete in recreational activities, like flatwater paddling and whitewater rafting.
According to the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, Governor Cuomo’s team crushed former Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s team in a whitewater rafting race by nearly 18 seconds.
The Saranac Lakes are divided into three lakes, the upper, middle and lower, but all connected by a 17-mile stretch of the Saranac River.
The Adirondack region is also famous for its numerous campsites that litter the area. While the lake boasts nearly 37-miles of shoreline, nearly 54 percent of it is under private ownership.
