Gwen Stefani can’t escape questions about her new fiance Blake Shelton. On an episode of the Kelly Clarkson Show, Clarkson grills the pop singer about the engagement, where Stefani spills all the details.

Toward the end of the interview, 38-year-old Clarkson asks 51-year-old Stefani if she was aware of who she was marrying.

“Are you aware that your fiance, now…”

Stefani cuts her off to gush about how strange that sounds.

“I feel like I’m having like a weird moment like, I’m on your show. We’re talking about my engagement like what!”

“No, and here’s the thing, you’re engaged to this, who was a beauty pageant queen… or king!” Clarkson laughed. “I accidentally said, queen! So a pageant king, this is your love.”

Stefani responds about how precious Blake Shelton looks.

Blake Shelton’s Beauty Pageant Days

According to Country Fancast, Blake Shelton has been an entertainer his whole life. His mother used to bring Shelton’s sister to beauty pageants. Following the addition of a “boy” category, his mother knew it was a perfect opportunity to put his talents to use.

“Well, he used to just go around singing all the time,” said Shelton’s mother. “You know and just always singing, and I was always putting my daughter in beauty pageants when she was little, and of course I had to take him with me or get a babysitter, so they started having a boy category. He always won the talent portion, whether he won the beauty or not, he won the talent.”

While Blake Shelton liked to sing and perform on stage, he hated the evening wear portion.

“You know, I can get on stage and sing at those things, but the other half of it was I had to go do the evening wear, and it was awful,” recalls Shelton.

Boy, if we could get our hands on all those tapes.
