Hank Williams Jr. Getting Inducted Into Country Music Hall of Fame

Hank Williams Jr. is set to enter the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Hank Williams Jr. Announcement

The Country Music Association made the big announcement on on Wednesday (August 12).

“Bocephus has been eyeing this one for awhile,” Williams told Variety. “It’s a bright spot during a difficult year,” he said in reference to his daughter, Katherine Williams-Dunning, who died in a car crash in June.

“I have been making Top 10 records for 56 years,” he added. “I fell off a mountain and tried to reinvent myself as a truly individual artist and one who stepped out of the shadows of a very famous man… one of the greatest. I’ve got to thank all those rowdy friends who, year after year, still show up for me. It’s an honor to carry on this family tradition.” (Hank Williams Sr. was inducted into the hall back in 1987.) “It is much appreciated.”

Other Inductees

Alongside Williams Jr., Dean Dillion will be inducted as a songwriter and Marty Stuart as the “modern era artist.”

“It is the ultimate honor in country music,” Stuart told the outlet. “I’m so honored to be included in this class and I’m honored to be included alongside Hank Jr. and Dean Dillon. I love those people. To be officially inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame is beyond words. I’m usually not at a loss for words.”

“I was just speechless,” Dillon added. “Trying to soak in the words that I had just heard. My life flashed before my eyes. You could’ve knocked me over with a feather.”

All About the Inductees

Entering into the Country Music Hall of Fame is one of the highest distinctions. The CMA created the honor in 1961 for those artists who have made significant contributions to music. Hank Williams, Fred Rose, and Jimmie Rogers were the first inducted.

How does one get elected? An anonymous panel of music industry leaders created by CMA makes the decision. Next, the artists are chosen by the exclusive panel. Finally, the invitation-only ceremony will take place inside the CMA Theater.

What does an artist get? They get the recognition, a ceremony along with two other honorees, and a bronze plaque inside the museum.
