Hillary Clinton shared her thoughts on the 2020 Presidential Debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
Clinton appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden to offer her opinion on the matter. The former United States secretary of state called the debate “maddening and sad.”
She spoke of how Trump will “do or say anything” to win. She also mentioned that she’d “kind of be cringing” at some of the more dramatic moments.
“There were a couple of times I just had to get up and walk out,” Clinton admitted. “It’s very sad to think that we’re having the most important election in maybe our history coming up and the president, one of the two candidates, can’t be bothered to answer the questions, put forward any kind of agenda for the future. It’s all insult and attack and braggadocio. It was sad, James. It was maddening and sad at the same time.”
Using her own experience debating against Trump in 2016, Clinton advised Biden that he “cannot let Trump knock [him] off [his] game.” She drove home the need for Trump to control and dominate the conversation, so debate partners need to remain focused and disciplined.
“He’ll attack you in the middle of you answering a question — totally against the rules — and you want to continue answering your question but you don’t want to look like you’re avoiding his,” Hillary Clinton explained.
Hillary Clinton’s advice is all throughout her video clip from the appearance. Though she’s obviously no longer a part of the presidential race, her suggestions may be vital to Biden’s success in future debates.
