Hillary Clinton responded on Twitter to last night’s (Sept. 29) 2020 presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. At several times during the debate, Trump and Biden got into a heated exchange of words. During one point, Biden told Trump “Will you just shut up man?” after Trump interrupted him.
Lawyer and author Jill Filipovic tweeted Clinton about the exchange, writing, “I so feel for Hillary right now because I’m positive she wanted to say that and couldn’t.”
Clinton’s response was short but to the point. She replied, “You have no idea.”
Hillary Clinton publicly endorsed Joe Biden for president.
Clinton was the Democratic candidate for president in 2016 against Trump. She won the popular vote by 2.9 million but lost in the electoral college in key battleground states. Clinton decided not to make another presidential campaign in 2019. She also publicly endorsed Biden’s candidacy in April.
Fox News reporter Chris Wallace moderated last night’s debate against Trump and Biden. The event was live-streamed via YouTube as well as news stations and online outlets. Wallace discussed various topics with the two candidates including: “The Trump and Biden Records,” “The Supreme Court,” “Covid-19,” “The Economy,” “Race and Violence in our Cities,” as well as “The Integrity of the Election.”
According to CNN, organizers held the presidential debate at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Around 60-70 people were in attendance, following social distancing guidelines. Biden and Trump also elected not shake hands before the debate as candidates have traditionally done in the past.
At moments during the debate, topics devolved into a screaming match between Trump and Biden. Biden called out Trump for remarks he made after the Charlottesville protests in 2017. Trump focused on Biden’s son Hunter, who Trump says received $3.5 million from a “corrupt Moscow mayor.”
After telling Trump to “shut up,” Biden said at the end of the segment change, “That was a really productive segment. Keep yappin’, man.” During another point in the debate, Biden called Trump a “clown.” Meanwhile, Trump insulted Biden’s intelligence by saying Biden finished “last in his class.”
Two more presidential debates are planned to take place between Biden and Trump. The next debate between them will be on Oct. 15.
