Before her marriage to country star Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman was the center of another high-profile marriage with Tom Cruise. At the time, she was 23-years-old and still in the early years of her career as far as Hollywood was concerned. For the next 11 years, that marriage was the subject of tabloids and gossip news constantly.
In a recent interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Kidman opened up about her relationship with Urban, the past, and what it means for their relationship now. She was truly open and the comments she shared show a look inside her marriage to the country music star.
“We’re always working through stuff,” Kidman said to Harper’s Bazaar, “but it’s very much love-based, so there’s an enormous amount of give and take. I want him to have the best life he can have, and he responds the same way. We really love parenting together.”
As far as discussing her previous marriage, Nicole Kidman seems reluctant. There is a good reason for that. Since she is married to Urban, it just doesn’t seem right to talk about the past. She wrote about her feelings on the matter in 2018 for New York Magazine.
“It almost feels disrespectful [to Keith]. That said, I got married very young, but it definitely wasn’t power for me – it was protection… When I came out of [the marriage] at 32, 33, it’s almost like I had to grow up.”
Being in your early 20s and thrust into the spotlight the way she was, had to be difficult. Not to mention her husband became one of the biggest movie stars in the world during their time together. However, that didn’t stop her from finding love again.
What Keith Urban Asked Nicole Kidman When They Met
It was back in 2006 when Nicole Kidman married Keith Urban. Since then the two have been an Australian power couple, both developing their careers over time. One thing has been clear, they truly love one another and have made quite a life together. It started over 15 years ago when the two first met.
While Kidman doesn’t remember everything exactly, she says that her husband does. It really is a sweet story, and seems like something out of a rom-com, perhaps. It was this “warm approach” that worked so well on the actress.
“I’m wary at times, and I’ve been hurt, but at the same time, I much prefer a warm approach rather than a prickly shutdown approach. My husband, says that when he met me, he said, ‘How’s your heart?’ And I apparently responded, ‘Open.'”
Honestly, sounds like quite the pickup line. Clearly, it worked out. 15 years later and the two are still in love and raising a family.
