Jennifer Lawrence is expanding on her own political views and condemned her past support for the Republican party. The actress said voting Republican was “voting against my own rights.”

In a statement on Twitter, Lawrence reflected on how the Barrack Obama presidency changed her political views. She said she regrets voting for John McCain in 2008. The actress also continued her endorsement of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

“I would like to clarify my voting record, which is the subject of many circulating headlines,” she said in a statement. “I grew up in a republican family and voted for John McCain in 2008, but through Obama’s presidency, and growing up to realize I was voting against my own rights, I am proud to say I am a Democrat.”

Jennifer Lawrence Endorsed Joe Biden As President

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Lawrence said she endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. The actress valued that Clinton was a “career politician,” something she said this country needs. In a separate interview with V magazine, Lawrence said she plans to vote for Biden in the upcoming election.

“I’m voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris this year because Donald Trump has and will continue to put himself before the safety and well-being of America,” Lawrence told the outlet. “He does not represent my values as an American, and most importantly as a human being.”

Recently, the actress has made her feelings about Donald Trump known. On the podcast Absolutely Not, Lawrence said supporting Republicans may have “fiscal benefits” but the party didn’t match her own beliefs. She described Trump as an “impeached president.”

“This is an impeached president whose broken many laws and has refused to condemn white supremacy, and it feels like there has been a line drawn in the sand,” Lawrence said. The actress also lamented that she missed Obama. “You would go days, maybe weeks, without thinking about the president because everything would generally be OK.”
