John Legend called Donald Trump a “weak, sorry excuse for a President” on Twitter August 19th. The singer, who performed Thursday at the Democratic National Convention, expressed his shock in the difference between former-president Barack Obama and current President Trump.

Immediately following the first tweet, Legend replied a second, commending Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention. The tweet reads, “What a beautiful speech that was. Full of eloquence, emotion and moral weight.”

Barack Obama’s speech Wednesday night of the DNC commended his former Vice President, Joe Biden, while criticizing President Trump’s time in office. In an effort to draw voters away from supporting Trump, he said, “I did hope, for the sake of our country, that Donald Trump might show some interest in taking the job seriously, that he might come to feel the weight of the office and discover some reverence for the democracy that had been placed in his care.”

He continued, saying that the President never ended up discovering “reverence for the democracy” : “But he never did. For close to four years now, he’s shown no interest in putting in the work; no interest in finding common ground; no interest in using the awesome power of his office to help anyone but himself and his friends”

Moreover, the former president went on to claim that President Trump has not only failed in leading the country in a commendable degree of seriousness, but that he is incapable of the task at hand. Obama said, “Donald Trump hasn’t grown into the job because he can’t.”
