Actor Jon Voight‘s latest monologue proves a stalwart look at his views on “America, land of freedom” as he discusses the “Red, white, & blue.”

“America… America, land of freedom. Land of growth. A soil that has many miles of heroism,” Voight begins, his eyes unwavering. “We’re the land of the greatest opportunities in the world,” he adds, before touching on the heart of his latest speech: the American Flag.

The Academy Award-winning actor currently stars as Mickey Donovan on Showtime’s Ray Donovan. To the American masses, however, Jon Voigt has made a name for himself as an outspoken “American patriot,” one whose time-worn voice echoes the very sentiments of that title.

“Our flag is pride, glory, freedom!” he continues. “And no one will destroy her stars and stripes of blood, sweat, and tears. No one.”

“My fellow Americans,” Voight says after a pause, as if taking on the mantle of U.S. President, “I’ve read that there are some who want to destroy our flag. Yes, destroy. This is disgust to think that one could suggest such horrors,” the actor offers stone-faced.

Jon Voight’s pointed address, while not naming any names, certainly aims directly for singer Macy Gray’s recent Juneteenth op-ed. Within, Gray lays out beliefs of her own, citing that:

“The American flag has been hijacked as code for a specific belief. God bless those believers, they can have it… It no longer represents democracy and freedom. It no longer represents ALL of us. It’s not fair to be forced to honor it. It’s time for a new flag.”

Jon Voight: ‘We Will Protect This Flag’

To this, Voight replies: “Our flag is our greatest truth. Our greatest past, our greatest trust. Our memory of the greatest American heroes, who won the battles we shall never forget.”

“We will protect this flag, the red, white, and blue. For the is the sacred bond that connects the land of the free. From George Washington’s handshake, to the battle of God’s freedom for the American dream of all nationalities, all colors, all races, who come to this country for security. For peace. And freedom. For our flag.”

In juxtaposition, Macy Gray asks for a flag that adds two stars to the current 52 – one for Washington, D.C., and one for Puerto Rico. Each, she notes, have been “lobbying for statehood” for decades.

But there is to be no change to “She, the American Flag,” assigns Jon Voight. “The red, white, and blue remind us of power she holds. So no man will knock down or change the symbolism of her greatest achievements; from yesteryear to this year.”
