Katy Perry Speaks Out in Defense of Ellen DeGeneres Amid Scandal

Katy Perry is showing support for Ellen DeGeneres after the daytime host’s talk show came under fire. The “Daisies” singer took to Twitter on Tuesday to take a stand for DeGeneres.

In recently published reports, dozens of former employees on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” called the production a “toxic” environment. While a handful of ex-employees felt that DeGeneres allowed the behavior, Perry, 35, says she’s only had “positive” experiences with the Emmy winning comedian.

“I know I can’t speak for anyone else’s experience besides my own but I want to acknowledge that I have only ever had positive takeaways from my time with Ellen & on the @theellenshow,” Perry tweeted. “I think we all have witnessed the light & continual fight for equality that she has brought to the world through her platform for decades. Sending you love & a hug, friend @TheEllenShow.”

After sharing the couple tweets, Perry’s fans and followers voiced mixed views on the message. Some admired Perry showing support for her friend. Others questioned Perry taking DeGeneres’ side.

“It’s nice to see someone standing up for their friend and associate,” one user tweeted. “Thank you for sharing your positive experience. I’m sure you’re not alone.” Another user offering a different opinion writes: “Ellen’s own behavior has been talked about not just her show. Not wrong to defend a friend – but it isn’t just her staff.”

Katy Perry isn’t the only celebrity to show support for Ellen DeGeneres. Actress Diane Keaton also penned a short message on Instagram saying how DeGeneres affects positive change.
