Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is always a tasty favorite. As a side dish or a meal, the Krafty Cheesy yumminess of the famous blue-boxed mac and cheese always hits the spot.

On Wednesday, the delicious treat announced an unlikely partnership with Van Leeuwen Ice Cream to celebrate National Mac & Cheese Day. The product? A limited-edition mac and cheese ice cream flavor. It is certainly an unlikely pairing. But, the pairing was certainly a hit.

According to TMZ, the demand for the unique cheesy ice cream treat was so great that the website actually crashed within nine minutes of the flavor’s launch. The demand for the unlikely dessert was so great, TMZ reported, that Van Leeuwen Ice Cream sold out of their entire inventory within an hour. That amounts to a total of 2,000 pints of the chilly Kraft-Mac treat.

Kraft Mac and Cheese Specailty Sells Out Online and In Store

In addition to the online sales, Van Leeuwen Ice Cream sold the Kraft Mac and Cheese ice cream in their shops throughout the country. According to reports, however, even those supplies didn’t last and within three hours all the ice cream -estimated to be 9,000 scoops worth was completely sold out.

Kraft Macaroni & Cheese’s Twitter page was on it as supplies were flying off the literal and virtual shelves Wednesday. By 10 a.m. on July 14, the Mac and Cheese company reassured customers that the ice cream was not yet sold out, despite the fact orders were unable to be placed.

“#MacIceCream is NOT sold out,” the Kraft Macaroni & Cheese Twitter post stated. “Looks like our ultra cool collab was too hot for our servers to handle.”

By that afternoon, however, Kraft Macaroni & Cheese’s Twitter was singing an entirely different tune.

“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened,” the company tweeted as they announced the special treat was officially sold out. “Our ice cream collab with @vanleeuwen sold out faster than you can say cheese.”

However, the company assured fans that this was not the end of the chilly dish.

“Stay tuned,” the post said. “We’re checking the back of the freezer for more…”

And, the company has not disappointed. On Thursday morning, the Mac and Cheese giant sent out a tweet declaring some lucky ice-cream lovers will have a chance to win pints of the specialty flavor. The contest will continue through July 21.
