Kristen Johnston, of CBS’s sitcom, ‘Mom’, tweeted an image and statement that her sister passed away on Monday, August 17.
In the tweet, Johnston mentions her sister’s belly laugh and that she knows her sister is now at peace.
Fans tweeted back their support and empathy to Johnston. Fifteen thousand replies appear under the actress’s original tweet. The outpouring of support “stunned” Johnston, who tweeted a follow-up on Wednesday, thanking her fans for their “heartfelt comments.”
Her sister died after losing her battle with an undisclosed “addiction.” Johnston, herself, has been very open with her own battle with addiction.
In her memoir, Guts, Kristen Johnston details her difficulty with drugs and alcohol that started in high school. “It felt like I was speeding on the Autobahn toward hell, trapped inside a DeLorean with no brakes. And even if I could somehow stop, I’d still be screwed, because there’s no way I’d ever be able to figure out how to open those insane, cocaine-designed doors,” an excerpt from the book says.
