Christopher Meloni, star of Law & Order: Organized Crime, was testing out a selfie joke on social media.
You decide whether it’s a brilliant “zaddy” quip. Or weak Dad joke.
Meloni wrote: “L&O: OC selfie #justmeandmyshadow.”
And the photo, literally, was Meloni’s shadow. Fun production day at Law & Order: Organized Crime everybody.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Star Is Everywhere Coming Into Season Two
There’s been a flurry of publicity for Meloni and Law & Order: Organized Crime the past month. Season two premieres, Sept. 23. It’ll follow Law & Order: SVU, the show Meloni’s Elliot Stabler started on.
Last week, the 60-year-old Meloni celebrated his cover of Men’s Health. He did a lengthy interview and participated in a four-minute workout video. Meloni is known for his shapely glutes and muscular arms. His glutes, in particular, became famous in the spring when a photo of a Law & Order: Organized Crime shoot went viral. He continued to share snaps from his photoshoot on his Instagram account.
He’s loving the attention.
“It’s cool as s–t,” Meloni said in the interview. “The aspect of age comes into play as far as the cover of [this magazine] and how I feel about it. A friend of mine said, ‘Did you ever think in a million years you’d be on the cover of Men’s Health?’ I said, ‘Certainly not at age 60.'”
Meloni Is Headed into 14th Season as Elliot Stabler
Meloni has worked steadily since his mid-30s, but Elliot Stabler has defined his career. He’s spent 13 years of his life playing the character, first on SVU, then Law & Order: Organized Crime. He spoke to Men’s Health about how he felt when his career made the turn to famous TV actor.
“When my career started to happen, I could feel it,” Meloni said. “But I didn’t want to trust it, because I had struggled for so long—or at least it felt like I’d struggled for so long—and I didn’t want it to go away. I don’t know how many people get this opportunity to dream a dream and have it come to fruition. Because everyone does the first part, but to have it come to fruition then starts a whole other journey of Now what? And What is this? And How do you manage?”
About seven years ago, Meloni spoke to AV Club about why he picked acting. “I found I couldn’t function in normal society” Meloni said. “So I had to find, I guess, a pretend world in which to inhabit.”
Maybe Meloni was introducing us to his pretend world, Monday, with his Instagram shadow joke. His fans loved it. One wrote: “Even your shadow is giving me zaddy.” (For a refresher on pop culture slang, a zaddy is a fashionably cool, older man.”
“I love it, very cinematic,” another fan said.
Because right now, everything the Law & Order: Organized Crime star does is ultra cool.
