Lebron James Officially Endorses Joe Biden, Kamala Harris in 2020 Election

by Will Shepard

Lebron James has officially endorsed a Presidential candidate this year. Although it is unlikely to surprise anyone, the basketball superstar has given his endorsement to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Donald Trump’s rally demonized the star with chants of “Lebron James sucks“. Trump further aided those comments by saying, “what a crowd”. Shortly thereafter, Lebron shared an instagram to his 74.5 million followers supporting Biden and Harris.

It seemed like only a matter of time that James would voice his support for Biden and Harris. James captioned the Instagram post, “One more day. Please!! We need EVERYTHING to change and it all starts tomorrow”. The NBA Champion and Finals MVP has been a strong supporter of racial justice and advocate for defunding the police.

Lebron’s Advocacy For Change

The NBA postseason was fraught with tension over the racial injustices across the country. James and fellow NBA players lead a charge this year to bring racial injustices to the forefront of American politics. Since boycotting a postseason game, James has been outspoken on political reform. Til now, James hadn’t publicly endorsed Biden, but is not the first from the basketball realm to do so. Coaches Greg Popovich, Steve Kerr, and Doc Rivers remain outspoken in their disdain for the job Trump has done.

NBA ratings plummeted this offseason, believed to be caused by the way in which the players protested. Before every game, both teams knelt in solidarity with the victims of police brutality. Through the postseason in Orlando, FL. James stayed steadfast in his message to end racism. James focused specifically on voting ability this year.

James famously said that the voting system is structurally racist and needs to be changed. As a result, he helped create “More Than A Vote” this year. This campaign tried to help get as many underprivileged people registered to vote as possible.

In order to see if James’ advocacy changed the election, the wait comes to an end soon. In any case, James leaves a lasting impact on Basketball and humanitarian causes.
