Grab your tissues because this beautiful story is a tear-jerker. A Massachusetts man’s 21st birthday was made extra special when his father, who died six years prior, bought him his first legal beer.

According to Boston 25, Matt Goodman was only 15 when his father died of cancer. A challenging situation for any child or family member to be in. Before Matt’s father died, however, he wanted to be the person to buy his son his first legal drink when he would turn 21.

Matt’s father gave his older sister, Casey, $10. He told Casey not to spend the money but to save it for Matt to buy a beer on his 21st birthday, a special day for everyone.

Casey obeyed her father’s wishes and kept the $10 bill safe until the day finally happened, six years in the future.

“I know the hardest thing for my dad was the things he was going to miss out on,” Casey Goodman said to the Boston news outlet. “Anyone who knew my dad knew he was this goofy, larger-than-life-of-the-party guy, and my little brother was his entire world.”

Viral 21st Birthday Beer Post

On December 6, the birthday boy posted a photo of the bill and his first large legal beer. The boy posted a tribute to his loving father.

“Almost 6 years ago before my dad passed he gave my sister this 10$ bill to give to me on my 21st birthday so he could buy me my first beer, cheers pops havin this one for you!”

The post has received lots of attention with well over half a million likes.

The post was even noticed by popular beer brand Budweiser, who quote tweeted the photo, saying, “We’re raising one to your pops, Matt. He got your first beer and the next one’s on us.”

Two days after Matt’s birthday, he commented on the original post, showing him posing next to eight cases of Budweiser. He thanked the company, saying that he was well taken care of.

“Thanks @budweiserusa I think I got my next few beers taken care of!!!”

Young Man Refuses Money, Directs People to Cancer Institute

Once again, Matt commented to thank all the people who asked for his Venmo to also buy him a beer. He respectfully declined the money, however.

“Appreciate all of you asking for my Venmo, but instead if you wanted to send money feel free to donate any amount to dana farber they did a lot for my dad so that would be much appreciated! https://danafarber.jimmyfund.org

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute works with cancer “research, advancements in immunotherapy, and successful clinical trials.”

Matt, there is no doubt your father would have been proud of you, just like we are! Happy Birthday! You always have a barstool at our table.
