The events in Washington D.C. yesterday afternoon left politicians, celebrities, and America as a whole stunned.
While the Senate was meeting to confirm electoral votes and officially name Joe Biden the president-elect, thousands of violent President Donald Trump supporters smashed their way into the U.S. Capitol. Many have injuries, including one woman now dead from a fatal gunshot.
It resulted in a huge mob pushing and fighting police and eventually entering the building. Masses of people were seen inside where they broke into offices, smashed windows, and vandalized the government building.
Government officials evacuated. After a lengthy delay, the National Guard was called and a 6 p.m. curfew was put into place in D.C. Later that night, they reconvened and officially recognized Biden as the president-elect.
According to The Washington Post, the attempted coup left four people dead. Additionally, D.C. police have so far arrested 79 people from 20 different states since Tuesday afternoon. Now, the FBI is searching for “tips and digital media” to help identify the rioters who vandalized the U.S. Capitol.
Maren Morris Responds
Since the violent coup, social media has been lighting up with responses, pictures, and videos of the event. Celebrities such as country artist Maren Morris have been responding to the event.
In a tweet, Morris talked about how she’s processing the events so far.
Several tweets also point out the fact that confederate flags were in the U.S. Capitol. Even during the Civil War, confederates were never able to make it that close to the nation’s capital.
Maren Morris retweeted a tweet explaining this.
She also favorited a tweet explaining that 14,000 people were arrested during the George Floyd protests, which almost all remained peaceful. This is a substantial difference in arrests from the attacks yesterday.
Morris and Mickey Guyton Team Up
Maren Morris also went on to discuss the divide that is very clear in country music. Mickey Guyton, a Grammy-nominated artist, supported Morris on Twitter. She wrote, “I am completely disgusted. Are these boys still backing the blue? Asking for a friend.”
To which Morris said, “And how do some singer’s wives conveniently not know the difference between marching for racial injustice and Nazis breaching our Capitol because their guy didn’t win?”
Guyton then responded to a fan saying that the two artists “turn on their own” in country music.
