If you are in peak shape, how many pushups do you think you could do in an hour? 100? 500? 1,000? Try again. This former Marine did over 3,000 pushups.
In honor of Memorial Day weekend, Outsider would like to give a special shoutout to this former Marine for not only breaking the world record but crushing it. You are tough as nails!
TShane Johnson, former Marine Corps serviceman, we are tipping our cap to you today. This man broke a world record after he did 3,050 pushups in an hour. According to our rusty math skills, Johnson would have to do 50 or more pushups every minute for an hour. So more or less, this military man just kept going.
He did the insane workout earlier this month at Southpaw Training Center in Pineville, North Carolina, and crushed the previous Guinness World Record holder. Men’s Health reports that Johnson needed to do more than 2,919 pushups to beat Jarrad Young, who set the record last June.
The workout was part of a fundraising event for the Purple Heart Honor Mission, a nonprofit that does outreach for Purple Heart recipients and provides education on combat-wounded veterans. However, the Guinness Book of World Records has not officially cleared the Marine’s record. They will be reviewing the footage in the upcoming weeks to confirm Johnson’s new title.
A Marine’s Work Is Never Done
In addition, TShane Johnson isn’t taking his foot off the gas just yet. He is currently training to break another world record, this time, over the course of 12 hours. On November 10, he will attempt to do more than 19,325 pushups. On his first attempt, he only completed 16,500.
When TShane Johnson isn’t in the gym crushing world records, he is an author and motivational speaker. He is also a homelessness advocate ever since he left the military.
Just because Johnson was a Marine and a world-record-setting athlete doesn’t mean he isn’t faced with his own set of challenges. The website notes that he was almost killed in a motorcycle crash that left him with an abundance of scar tissue around his lungs that inhibits his oxygen intake. His coach, Jamie McGrath, has helped train TShane to overcome the obstacle with special training.
I mean, look at some of these insane workouts! I’m tired just watching him. You are amazing, TShane! Keep up the amazing work. Both the Outsider team and your country are proud of you! Happy Memorial Day!
