Meghan McCain is remembering her late father, Sen. John McCain, two years after his passing. Meghan took to social media this week to upload a heartfelt photo of her family.
“He loved being a Dad,” she captioned the photo. The black and white throwback picture shows the McCain family sitting around a table putting together a puzzle.
In a series of follow-up tweets, Meghan McCain, 35, shared several other photos and messages about her father. She says the two of them were very close, talking multiple times a day.
“We talked a few times a day and I miss his laugh and dark sense of humor the most,” she writes. “Grief doesn’t get easier but in my experience, the pain does get quieter in time. I still wake up every day missing him.”
John McCain died in 2018. In the previous July, doctors diagnosed him with a rare form of brain cancer, stage 4 glioblastoma.
Meghan’s mother, Cindy McCain, also took to social media to remember her late husband. She posted a heartwarming message along with a photo of John. “There isn’t one hour I don’t think of you or one hour I don’t miss you,” Cindy writes.
She continues by writing: “Being quarantined up north where you chose to spend your last months has been loving, enlightening and also very difficult. I feel close to you, but also very alone sometimes. I know you are here because I feel it every day.”
Cindy, 66, concludes the post by adding: “Occasionally you remind me to buck up and move forward. I won’t let you down, but oh god I miss you. I’m hiking to the top of the hill today to give you some flowers and to let you know how much I love you. Your beloved valley is still yours.”
