Michael J Fox and wife Tracy Pollan are happy to be empty nesters.

The couple recently spoke to People at the Michael J Fox Foundation benefit at New York’s Lincoln Center this past weekend. The couple wed back in 1988 and share their 32-year-old son Sam, 26-year-old twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, and their youngest, 19-year-old Esme. Esme recently left home for college. Michael J. Fox and Tracy are poking fun about their favorite aspect without kids in the house.

“We get more food,” Fox joked to the outlet. “They’re not taking it all!”

When it comes to the secret of their happy long-term marriage, something that’s almost unheard of in Hollywood, they have one lesson to live by.

“Like each other,” Pollan said. “We enjoy each other’s company and we just have fun together and so it’s not that hard for us. We’re lucky.”

Fox’s benefit aided his foundation which helps in Parkinson’s research. This year’s event featured Brad Paisley and Sting as headliners.

“Oh, if you have industry support for the foundation, it’s amazing,” he shared. “You don’t want to take advantage of those relationships, you don’t want to press them, but it’s lovely to see people step in and have a connection and they call me and they let me know what they’re doing and it’s amazing.”

The foundation has donated over $1 billion for research. Fox knows that this is just the beginning.

Michael J. Fox on Family Life

Michael J Fox is a big family man and is extremely close to his kids and wife. Although he’s kept his personal life private. He did discuss with AARP how family outings had to be scheduled to work with his medication regimen. Pollan shared that she’s the worrier of the family and makes everything come together in the end.

“Sometimes the kids will need their dad’s help and he’ll say, ‘I’m not feeling great right now,'” Pollan said. “But on the flip side, the first thing he does is go back to the kids when he’s feeling good. It teaches them patience and empathy.”

“Tracy wanted to get in there and help me with it, but I resisted,” he added. “The more problems you solve together and the more experiences and laughs you have, the tighter you get.”

Last year, Fox appeared as his iconic Back to the Future character Marty McFly in a Lil Nas X promo video. It was the trailer to his song, “Holiday.” He revealed to James Corden on The Late Late Show that it was his children who convinced him to agree to it.

“My kids went crazy,” Fox recalled. “They’re young adults. They went crazy. They’re like, ‘You have to do this. If you do nothing else this year, you do this’ and I did it. I hadn’t met Lil Nas yet, but when they came to shoot the video they were great. They shot it right here in my office and it was great.”
