Morgan Wallen made his return to the stage at the 2020 CMT Awards. This marked the first performance from Wallen since his scheduled performance on Saturday Night Live was canceled.

His Performance

Wallen performed “Chasin’ You” without a crowd due to COVID-19 safety measures. He wore a typical t-shirt and jeans in an incredible environment. He performed at Ruskin Cave in Dickson, Tennessee. Lights and bottles surrounded him. He performed emotively into the microphone while the lights flickered. This year, Wallen is nominated for Male Video of the Year for “Chasin You (Dream Video).”

What Morgan Wallen Had to Say

Wallen came under fire after his performance on Saturday Night Live was canceled earlier this month. Producers had to cancel his appearance because he did not adhere to COVID-19 safety precautions after numerous videos surfaced of him partying without a face mask in large crowds.

Wallen issued an apology video and said that he would take time away from the spotlight. “I’m not positive for COVID, but my actions this past weekend were pretty short-sighted, and they’ve obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams,” he told the camera. “I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy.”

He apologized to the show, his team, and fans. “And on a more personal note, I think I have some growing up to do,” he admitted. “You know, I think I’ve lost myself a little bit. I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places, and I don’t know, it’s left with less joy. So I’m going to try to go work on that.”

“I’m going to take a step back from the spotlight for a little while and go work on myself. I wish I could’ve made country music and my fans proud this Saturday, but I respect the decision once again,” he concluded.
