Decorating for Christmas is one of the best parts of the holiday season. There’s something about hanging all those lights, putting up a tree, and breaking out the special knickknacks that just feels nice. Some people take their decorating to extremes while others go for a more low-key approach. However, one Oregon resident’s Christmas lights, while not extreme, might land him on the naughty list this year.
According to Newsweek, one Eugene, Oregon resident just wanted to spread some Christmas cheer. To do so, they wanted to highlight two of the most celebrated parts of the holiday: Jesus and snow. With that in mind, they formed words with their light display. They put “Jesus” on their roof and “Let it snow” on the outer walls of their home. I’m sure you’re wondering how “Jesus” and “Let it snow” in Christmas lights would land someone on the naughty list. Well, as usual, the devil is in the details.
In theory, these are the perfect decorations for Christmas. Jesus and snow are both huge parts of the holiday. However, the placement of the Christmas lights took this display from nice to naughty. Instead of “Let it snow,” the lights spell out “Le tits now.”
This probably would have gone largely unnoticed. However, their neighbor happens to have a great sense of humor and a camera. They couldn’t resist sharing the naughty Christmas light display on social media. Then, a friend of the homeowner took a screenshot of the post and tweeted it. It quickly went viral on Twitter. Naughty Christmas Lights: Accident or Joke?
Honestly, I find it hard to believe that this naughty Christmas light display was an accident. Instead, it’s probably someone trying to spread a little holiday humor. After all, it does bring to mind the classic SNL parodies of Celebrity Jeopardy! in which Sean Connery hilarious misreads the board. Watch the video below and you’ll see him misread “Let it snow.”
Furthermore, hanging Christmas lights takes time and the homeowner obviously put effort into their display. It’s hard to believe that an adult could do this by accident.
Additionally, the comments in Dan Thomas’ original post point to this being a joke. One commenter pointed out that Newsweek covered the story. They added “The poor dear who wrote it seems to think it was done by mistake,” and added a laughing emoji.
Naughty or not, these Christmas lights are great. After all, the whole point of putting up decorations is to spread holiday cheer. This display has made countless people across the internet laugh. So, at the end of the day, this Oregon homeowner might end up on Santa’s naughty list, but it was worth it.
