Nick Offerman to Appear as Colin Kaepernick’s Dad in Upcoming Netflix Series, Says He is ‘Chuffed’

Netflix is producing a new show about Colin Kaepernick’s life and the cast is almost set. Nick Offerman is going to play Kaepernick’s father in the show, Colin In Black + White. The show is about Kaepernick in his high school years.

Netflix is doing a six-part series on Kaepernick and has just announced who will play the former quarterback’s parents.

Offerman is a comedian and best known for his role as Ron Swanson in NBC’s show Parks and Recreation. Although the show is unlikely to be a comedy, Offerman is excited to announce the news.

Via Twitter, Offerman tweeted out his excitement at being named Kaepernick’s father.

“I am powerfully chuffed to get to work with my heroes @ava@Kaepernick7!” Certainly an inspiring statement from the actor. Offerman is pleased to be working alongside the award-winning director, Ava DuVernay.

Nick Offerman Is Playing Kaepernick’s Father

Offerman certainly seems excited to be working on this powerful project.

Netflix announced the news as well. The company shared portraits of the two actors who will play the former NFL player’s parents.

However, there is one major issue that people are upset about. In a show that is about racial activism, having two caucasian parents could be an issue.

Correcting this issue is simple. Kaepernick was adopted at just 5-weeks old. Thus the explanation for two white parents.

In a statement that Kaepernick made about the six-part show, he talked about the origin of his activism.

“Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens. We seek to give a new perspective to the different realities that Black people face.”

Kaepernick continues: “We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community, during my high school years. It’s an honor to bring these stories to life in collaboration with Ava for the world to see.”

Undoubtedly Offerman is facing a tough role in playing Kaepernick’s father but is clearly excited to do so. Kaepernick is outspoken on activism and does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.

He has yet to be offered a deal to return to the NFL. However, he has a major Nike deal paying him millions of dollars. In truth, this deal pays him 126 million over seven years.
