One adult male has been confirmed dead in yesterday’s plane crash in the Shenandoah National Park.

Yesterday at 11:14 a.m., the Shenandoah National Park Communication Center in Virginia received a report of a plane crash. The small plane, a Piper PA-20, went down approximately 0.75 miles down the Buck Hollow Trail from Skyline Drive.

The park took to social media earlier in the afternoon on Wednesday to offer an update on the incident. “We are currently investigating the scene of a small plane crash in Shenandoah Nation Park,” the park tweeted. “We will release more details as we know them.”

The crash reportedly took place yesterday in the Central District of the park. Furthermore, according to Shenandoah National Park’s Twitter account, the Buck Hollow Trail and the Buck Ridge Trail currently closed until further notice.

As of today at 1:02 p.m., the Virginia State Police, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board are assisting with the crash. They have no further available information at the moment.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time. In addition, officials believe he was the only one onboard the plane.

The reason for the crash is also still unknown.
