American car brand Ford announced last Friday (August 20th) the release of a new color for the Bronco models, called Eruption Green.

In a press release, Ford stated the Bronco color and materials designers are developing the Eruption Green Metallic as a “modern interpretation” of Mallard Green. The Mallard Green was featured on first-generation Bronco models in the early to mid-1970s.

While sharing more details about the new color, Barb Whalen, Ford color and materials manager, states, “Automotive enthusiasts and especially Bronco fans are passionate about colors and will be excited about Eruption Green.”

Whalen also explains that paint has a “wonderful way of evolving” thanks to technology. “Eruption Green is a contemporary color, but there’s a connection with [the Ford] Bronco heritage. It’s evergreen-inspiration with yellow highlights that really tie it into nature.”

Ford goes on to add that Antimatter Blue, Lightning Blue Metallic, and Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat will be available exterior color options until the end of the 2021 model year. Orders for 2022 Bronco two- and four-door, including with Eruption Green and Hot Pepper Red, will open later on this year.

The Ford Bronco was made its debut in 1965. The car was to compete against the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout. Ford decided to enlarge the Bronco in 1978 to compete against Chevy’s K5 Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger.

The Bronco was in production until 1996. Ford brought it back in 2021 when the car brand introduced the Ford Bronco R prototype.
