The man who was shot and killed in Portland, OR on Saturday night was identified by police as Aaron J. Danielson. Pro-Trump groups and left-wing protesters clashed in downtown Portland as Danielson died.

On Monday, police said Danielson died of a gunshot wound to the chest. The Portland Police Bureau announced that Danielson was positively identified by the Multnomah County Medical Examiner’s Office. No suspects have been arrested in relation to the shooting so far.

Patriot Prayer, a far-right leaning group, which has previously fought with left-wing protestors, sent condolences to Danielson.

“(Danielson) had a huge heart,” group organizer Joey Gibson said on his Facebook page. “God bless the life he lived.”

Portland ‘Trump 2020 Cruise Rally’ Turns Violent

The fatal shooting came about as the “Trump 2020 Cruise Rally in Portland” rolled to an end. President Donald Trump’s supporters assembled in cars and trucks, and drove in a caravan into Portland.

Portland police tried to keep the caravan out of downtown. However, some vehicles didn’t follow the intended route and went “into the downtown core,” Police Chief Chuck Lovell said. Police said there were cases of violence between protestors and counter-protestors as the caravan rode through downtown.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, a Democrat, blamed Saturday night’s violence on the caravan.

“The right-wing group Patriot Prayer and self-proclaimed militia members drove into downtown Portland last night, armed and looking for a fight,” said Brown. “Every Oregonian has the right to freely express their views without fear of deadly violence. I will not allow Patriot Prayer and armed white supremacists to bring more bloodshed to our streets.”

Justin Dunlap, who witnessed the Portland shooting and captured some of it on his Facebook live stream, said he “didn’t hear much lead up to it. “

“I heard like three seconds of yelling and saw a guy spray bear mace,” Dunlap said. “The victim sprayed mace and launched it right into the other guy.”

The caravan antagonized protestors while riding through downtown Portland according to witnesses. Allegedly they fired paintball guns from their truck beds at the protesters. Additionally, riders in trucks released some form of spray toward protesters. Protesters retaliated by throwing objects at the caravan and its passengers.
