President Joe Biden Called Out for Addressing Afghanistan Withdrawal Without Taking Questions

President Joe Biden addressed the American people Monday afternoon and give them an update on the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

For Americans, no matter whether you agree or disagree with Biden’s decision, it’s difficult to ignore the emotions of thousands of Afghanis, who watched as the Taliban quickly took over the country as the U.S. troops departed.

After President Joe Biden spoke, he didn’t take questions. That drew social media ire from some of his critics.

Here’s a Sampling of Criticism of President Joe Biden

Matt Schlapp is president of the American Conservative Union. His wife worked for former President Donald Trump. He tweeted that Biden looked “weak.”

Schlapp said of the speech: “How do you not answer one question on Afghanistan? Political mortal sin. Looks weak.”

Graham Allen, a veteran and a Congressional candidate from Myrtle Beach, S.C, tweeted: “OMG Biden is now headed back to Camp David?!?! He talked for 20 mins. Took no questions, and is going back on vacation?! Something is very wrong here!!”

Camp David is a rural retreat for a president and his family. It’s about a 70-mile drive from the White House and is fully equipped for a president to work.

Tammy Bruce, a Fox contributor who lists herself as an “independent Tea Party conservative,” posted:

“Biden left taking no questions. He was barely able to deliver this brief speech & incapable of answering questions. Not exactly the approach that engenders trust. And certainly not on a catastrophe of this magnitude.

In a second tweet, Bruce continued her criticism of President Biden:

“He pontificated on the importance of leaving Afghanistan, which is not the issue here. Do they think we would actually be distracted by that, like this is a narrative issue? The problem is the absolute complete debacle of the withdrawal and everything surrounding it.”

One Critic Asked If It Was ‘Ice Cream’ Time

Hotep Jesus is a journalist and “disaffected liberal.” He wrote, “Joe “I ain’t taking no questions” Biden.” In another tweet, he said: “Joe “is it ice cream time” Biden.”

Kaitlan Collins covered Donald Trump’s presidency for CNN. She now covers President Biden. She posted on Twitter:

“President Biden doesn’t take questions after explaining why the US is leaving Afghanistan, without addressing most of the criticism over how the departure went down. Six weeks after saying he thought a Taliban takeover was highly unlikely, he concedes it was faster than expected.”

Joe Concha, a Fox News contributor, said:

“A disaster of historic proportions and President Biden takes 0.0 questions after reading scripted remarks and passing blame. Those who put away your soapboxes on Jan. 20 after screaming about accountability and transparency for four years can proceed to finally dust those off now.”

President Joe Biden said in his speech “that the buck stops with me,” but that he didn’t regret his decision to withdraw troops.

“I stand squarely behind my decision. After 20 years, I’ve learned the hard way that there was never a good time to withdraw US forces,” Biden said during a speech from the East Room of the White House Monday afternoon. “That’s why we’re still there. We were clear-eyed about the risks. We planned for every contingency. But I always promised the American people I would be straight with you. The truth is, this did unfold more quickly than we had anticipated.”

Before he left office, former President Trump agreed to withdraw all troops by May 2021.
