Author Tracey Davis has died at the age of 59. She passed away in Franklin, Tennessee on Nov. 2, the Associated Press reports.
Tracey was the daughter of famed Rat Pack entertainer, Sammy Davis Jr. and actress May Britt.
The cause of her death hasn’t been determined yet, but Davis’ ex-husband says that it was due to a short illness.
She was known for writing about her experiences as the daughter of one of the greatest entertainers ever. The Rat Pack might’ve kept them apart but she reconnected with her father in later years. Davis writes about it in her 1996 book “Sammy Davis Jr.: My Father.”
Davis penned a second book about her father’s encounter with racism throughout his career. This book’s titled, “Sammy Davis Jr.: A Personal Journey With My Father,” was released in 2014. Additionally, last month MGM announced they’re interested in developing a Sammy Davis Jr. biopic based on his daughter’s first book.
The author shared these comments after the deal was announced. “I am thrilled to know my father’s life, both private and public, will be brought to the big screen with this team of storytellers,” she said. “He and my mother May Britt took on the world, choosing love and compassion over hatred and bigotry, and I am a product of that decision.”
Furthermore, Davis also has a professional career in TV and advertising.
“She loved and adored her kids more than anything. Needless to say, they are all shocked and devastated by the loss of their mother, as are Tracey’s mother, May Britt Ringquist and her brothers, Mark and Jeff,” Garner said.
She is survived by her four children, her mother and her brothers.
