Hunting and fishing legend Jefferson “Sonny” Lee Albarty V died on July 23, 2020. The North Carolina native was 18 years old.

In a post written about Sonny, a social media user writes, “Now most legends are old-timers and you will very rarely, if ever, find legend material in someone who is 18 years old. But in Sonny that is exactly what you would find.
The user continued by writing: “A young man of unbelievable fortitude through uphill battles in life. A young man with a never give up, never stop fighting and a never stop believing attitude. The type of character traits legends are made of.”
Sonny posted his last photo on Instagram on July 1. At the time, Albarty mentions struggling to recover following a medical procedure.
“Three weeks ago I went for my last bronchoscopy and I did not recover well from it,” he wrote. “I’m at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and I want so badly to be home and feel good and go fishing. It’s so boring up here and I’m fed up with hospital life.”
Given the coronavirus pandemic, Sonny’s family plans to hold a celebration of life for Sonny Albarty in the fall. Furthermore, the family asks for all monetary gifts to go towards some of Sonny’s favorite charities such as Gift of Life Family House or Throwdown Youth Foundation.
