Tragedy unfolded this morning in the world of the superbike sport. 15-year-old Dean Berta Vinales joined his other competitors in the opening race of the Motul Spanish Round in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championships when things took a sudden turn. Unfortunately, during the course of the race, a horrific crash occurred. The Sun reports that this accident tragically took Dean’s life.
WorldSBK Authority in the Superbike World Issues A Statement
“We’re deeply saddened to report the loss of Dean Berta Viñales. The WorldSBK family sends love to his family, loved ones, and his team. Your personality, enthusiasm, and commitment will be hugely missed. The whole motorcycle racing world will miss you, Dean. Ride in Peace.”
The superbike star completed his 11th lap before a wreck involved him and multiple other riders. He suffered severe head and spinal injuries, leaving him in critical condition. Emergency Response Teams on site rushed to get to him and promptly transported him to a medical center nearby.
Medical staff did everything they could to try to keep him alive, but sadly the cousin of MotoGP race winner Maverick Vinales succumbed to his injuries. Officials pronounced his death at the medical site.

“Berta Viñales was enjoying a recent run of good form in his rookie season in the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, claiming a best of fourth place at Magny-Cours in Race 2. And backing it up with sixth in Barcelona-Catalunya Race 2, having set the fastest lap in Race 1. He was showing great potential during the Motul Spanish Round, in the leading group and starting from his best Superpole result of tenth.”
Tributes Pour in For Dean Berta Vinales
Within hours of the news emerging of the death of Dean Berta Vinales, the superbike community banded together to post their tributes to the late world superbike star. A 6-time champion of MotoGP, Marc Márquez wrote: “Rest in peace Dean. All my support to family and friends.”
@everythingmrace wrote: “Really thinking of the Viñales family today following the loss of Dean Berta who raced for the family-owned Viñales Racing Team. A terrible time for the family, please keep them in your thoughts.”
