Following her silver medal win during the Women’s Vault at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Team USA gymnast MyKayla Skinner takes to her Instagram account and gushes about her performance.

“There have been so many times I’ve wanted to quit the last 2 years and throughout my entire gymnastics career,” the 2020 Tokyo Olympics participant admits in her latest post. She also explains that doesn’t think most people know how hard gymnastics is mentally and physically.

“I’m grateful I never gave up and that so many of you never gave up on me,” Skinner writes. She then adds that her unfinished business was finished at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.  Skinner is set to compete in the Women’s Balance Beam and Floor Exercise events this upcoming week.

MyKayla Skinner Announces Retirement During 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Last week, Skinner announced her plans to retire from gymnastics while she was at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. After struggling at the beginning of the Games, Skinner took to Instagram to share her frustration. “Heartbroken is an understatement, but I am proud of myself for getting here after everything I’ve been through,” she explains. The Olympian also states she would have loved for her scores to count for the team and she would have loved to compete in event finals but she still did some of her best gymnastics.

“The sport of gymnastics hasn’t been kind to over me over the years,” the medal winner admits. “But I’m grateful I could be an example to never give up and to chase your dreams no matter what.”

Skinner then says the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is closing the book on her gymnastics career and her only regrets were things outside her control. She addresses her supporters by writing, “Your love and support has meant the world to me. Don’t be a stranger here or on my YouTube! Lots of fun things coming.”

Skinner Supports Fellow Team USA Gymnast Simone Biles After Event Withdraws

After Simone Biles announced she was withdrawing from the team events at the 2020 Olympics, Skinner showed her support for the famous Team USA gymnast. She shares on Twitter, “I’m so so proud of our girls for fighting to the very end. Each one of them is gold in my eyes. We are all human… Can’t image what Simone is going through.”

Skinner then says that Biles deserves all the support in the world right now and she’s still considered the G.O.A.T.

Although she showed support for her teammate, she was criticized for her husband’s alleged reaction to Simone’s decision. He wrote in one of his Instagram stories, “Funny how when you don’t take the team that gives you the best chance of winning gold… you don’t win gold.”

He also shared snaps of articles states that Skinner was actually part of the four-person team with the highest score potential but it was believed that she would do better in the individual events due to her experience on vault. His response to the comments, “This aged well.”
