USA Gymnastics commented on Simone Biles withdrawal from the individual all-around with a statement shared on Twitter. The organization praised the gymnast for her “bravery” and “courage.”

“After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic Games, in order to focus on her mental health,” the statement reads. “Simone will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether or not to participate in next week’s individual event finals. We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many.”

Stepping into the spot vacated by Biles in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics women’s individual all-around competition is Jade Carey of Team USA.

Biles exited the team competition during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday. She went through a vault, but did not land it well. After that, she and a trainer with Team USA exited the floor. Biles cheered for Chiles and the rest of her teammates.

Team USA took silver in the team competition. Russia won gold. Britain won the bronze.

After the team competition of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles commented on her early exit to the media.
