2020 Tokyo Olympics: Simone Biles Withdraws from Individual Floor Competition, Has One Potential Event Left

American Simone Biles has withdrawn from the individual floor competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, leaving her with one event left.

Biles has the balance beam competition possibly left to participate in for Team USA’s women’s gymnastics team, according to The Associated Press. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics have proven to be difficult for Biles, one of the most decorated in the history of American gymnastics.

She earlier took herself out of the vault and uneven bars at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Teammate MyKayla Skinner is taking Biles’ spot for Team USA. Skinner, a 24-year-old from Arizona, received the fourth-highest score in the qualification round. Skinner will compete alongside Jade Carey for Team USA.

Biles has been pretty absent from the Summer Games, citing mental health concerns around her withdrawals. She took herself out of the team competition and didn’t participate in the individual all-around competition, either.

Biles Received Both Tough, Loving Messages At 2020 Tokyo Olympics

She has received some tough messages as well as loving ones from former Olympians and family and friends.

Late Thursday night, 2008 wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo shared some “tough love” with Biles around the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Cejudo became the youngest American to win a gold medal in freestyle wrestling.

In a video posted on Twitter, he disagreed with Biles’ decision to stop because of her mental health.

“I believe Simone Biles pulling out of this thing is like, I think she really needs to check herself,” Cejudo said. “I think there’s time for a little bit of tough love.

“If she was my sister, this is exactly what I would do,” he said. “So, I would never say something that I wouldn’t do to my personal family or anything like that. Or even for me, because I do believe sometimes we do need a nice kick in the arse.”

Boyfriend Offers Olympian Kinder Words of Support At This Time

Biles’ boyfriend, Jonathan Owens, offered some kinder words for her.

“Imma ride with you through whatever baby,” Owens wrote in an Instagram post. “Your strength and courage is unmatched and you inspire me more and more everyday SB You always gone be my champ baby and don’t you ever forget that, i love you so much and i can’t wait till you come home and i get to see that beautiful smile again. You know I’m always here for you baby”.

Biles recently shared more about the current obstacle she faces, a phenomenon commonly known in the gymnastics world as the twisties. In other words, she loses track of her body’s movements while in mid-air, making safe and clean landings nearly impossible.

Biles has one final event to either be a part of or not. We’ll all wait to see what happens with one of Team USA’s greatest gymnasts.
