United States Olympian Raven Saunders is making a name for herself at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for her performances, as well as her attention-grabbing attire.

According to The New York Post, Saunders wore a very unique mask while competing in the shot put event on Friday, July 30. The mask featured the smile of the iconic DC Comics villain, The Joker. The character has been played in films by such stars as Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix.

The mask Saunders wore during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was mostly made up of The Joker’s villainous grin. The Olympian also died her hair green and purple. Those are two colors that have long been associated with the opponent of the superhero Batman.

The 25-year-old completed the unique look by wearing a large pair of large holographic sunglasses. Needless to say, her outfit caught the attention of many spectators and her fellow Olympics athletes.

The outfit is meant to grab people’s attention. Raven Saunders, who also goes by the nickname “The Hulk,” said she is aware that the outfits lead to “lots of looks.”

But in a way, they also serve to show her competitors that she can be friendly, even during the heat of a competition like the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

“I’m like literally the greatest person,” Saunders said. “But during competitions, I don’t like anybody.”

Saunders said she likes to stay away from other competitors while throwing the shot put. By wearing her unique outfits, she can show them that she isn’t being rude to them.

“One of my things is like, everyone during the shot put, and I don’t know why, people are always smiling and talking. That’s not really me,” Saunders said. “This is my way of like, being friendly I guess?”

What also caught the attention of spectators and other athletes was the results Raven Saunders turned in on Friday in the shot put. She advanced to the event final thanks to a throw of about 63 feet (or 19.22 meters). That final will take place on Sunday, Aug. 1.

If you like The Joker mask and sunglasses Saunders wore on Friday – or if you just want to see this talented athlete compete – make sure to tune in on Sunday. The Olympian said she plans on wearing an even more attention-grabbing outfit next time.

According to the official website of Team USA, Raven Saunders was born in Charleston, South Carolina. In 2014, she was Named the 2014 Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are not her first Olympic Games. She also competed in the shot put in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She came in fifth place that year.
