The offseason saga between the Green Bay Packers and star quarterback Aaron Rodgers took another turn on Monday.

Aaron Rodgers is now reportedly set to play for the Green Bay Packers in the upcoming season. It comes as potentially great news to Packer fans who remained hopeful that Rodgers would play at least one more year. With the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player returning, the odds of the Packers making a Super Bowl run also dramatically increase. Aaron Rodgers has long been considered one of the game’s most elite quarterbacks. He had a career year just last season on his way to earning the league’s 2020 MVP.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rappaport took to social media on Monday to share the news. He says Aaron Rodgers has informed those close to him that he plans to play in Green Bay this year.

Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay’s Off-Season Troubles

“Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he does plan to play for Green Bay this season, sources say,” the Twitter post proclaims. “That is the expectation. Many factors are at play, but with GM Brian Gutekunst saying he is “hopeful” for a positive outcome, there is a glimmer of optimism.”

The situation between Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers became murky earlier in the offseason. Rodgers made clear that he is not happy with his situation in Green Bay for a number of reasons. He reportedly debated asking the Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst to trade him. But, a trade never came to past and now it looks as if the situation has resolved itself — for now. This situation is sure to be revised at some point in the not-so-distant future.

Just this past weekend, Aaron Rodgers and his top wideout, Davante Adams, shared the same photo on social media. The photo shows former NBA greats Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan walking off the court together. Sports fans immediately recognized this to be an ode to “The Last Dance” documentary on the Chicago Bulls. The documentary details the final season of the Bulls dynasty of the 1990s. Green Bay Packer Fans interrupted this to mean that Rodgers and Adams are declaring this next season to be their last playing together.

The Packers reportedly offered Aaron Rodgers a contract extension that would have made him one of the highest players in the league. Rodgers allegedly turned the contract down and spent part of his offseason guest-hosting the game show “Jeopardy!”

Aaron Rodgers did quite well hosting the hit game show and could be considered for the permanent gig.

While there may be a temporary peace between Rodgers and the Packers, it isn’t likely to last. We probably haven’t heard the last of this situation and could flare back up next offseason — if not before then.
