In an interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a lot like his wife… in that they both make him look a lot better.

Andy Reid Looks Better With Mahomes

“He makes you look good, I’ll tell ya,” Reid said of Mahomes. “That’s what I’ve always said about my wife. I mean, you know, she made me look good, like I was a good recruiter.”

“This guy does the same for you, being a coach,” he continued. “I mean, and you hear this, but I mean, this is what he is. He’s the first one in and the last one out, that whole deal, which means he enjoys being here. He’s a gym rat type guy. He loves every sport. He stays up on every game going on.”

Moreover, “he loves sports,” Reid added. “And so he was blessed to grow up in a locker room. His dad was a pitcher in Major League Baseball, so he’s seen – he’s not awed by great players around him or any of that stuff or the game itself. So he comes in with that foundation and this work ethic that he just – he wants to, you know, he wants you to feed him. And so as a coach, I mean, that’s what you love.”

Modesty Is A Good Look

For all the ways Mahomes makes Reid look good, the two of them aren’t perfect. Reid and Mahomes recently had a tough game against the Atlanta Falcons. And they conceded afterward that Atlanta’s defense got the better of them for most of the game, per Chiefs Wire.

“I’ve got to focus on fixing the things I made mistakes on during the game,” Mahomes said after the game. “There was a lot of reads, a lot of protection calls, a lot of adjustments at the line of scrimmage that I made wrong or that I didn’t make the right way that put us in bad positions, and so I’ve got to focus on getting myself better to help out the team.”

For his part, Reid admitted his offense wasn’t as strong as it needed to be.

“I take responsibility for that,” Reid said. “We’ve got to just kind of get ourselves back into a rhythm here. I think we just weren’t as sharp as we need to be, and I’ve got to go back and look at the plays, make sure we’re dialing up the right things and then executing them, or at least dialing them up in the right order and then go from there.”

They did win the game in the end. And one thing’s for sure: modesty makes them both look better.
