Moynahan called out the NFL team for not using the off-season to settle on their new permanent team name. Washington decided to use the placeholder “Washington National Team” after universal outcry about their old team name. The NFL team went by the “Redskins” for decades, but more and more people called for the team to change names from the Native American slur to something more patriotic.
Last season, the team announced they’d become the Washington Football Team until they decided on a new permanent name. Apparently, for the “Blue Bloods” star, they’ve had plenty of time to do that.
“@WashingtonNFL couldn’t come up with a more original name during the off-season? Seriously,” Moynahan tweeted earlier today.
Lots of people agreed, but one fan brought up a good point in Moynahan’s comments. “They are taking their time – and that’s a good idea hint! It will be announced before 2022,” Lisa Raines wrote on Twitter.
We heard this summer that early 2022 is when the official name would be revealed, but the team also dropped its final eight contenders earlier this week. In a podcast interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Washington’s co-owner Tanya Snyder confirmed the eight candidates the team’s considering. “Blue Bloods” star Bridget Moynahan must not have heard them yet.
According to NBC Sports, the potential names are Armada, Presidents, Brigade, Redhawks, Commanders, Redwolves, Defenders, and Washington Football Team.
It’s not a bad list by any means, and hopefully it satisfies fans like the “Blue Bloods” star. But NBC Sports also reported that the Washington Football Team asked Schefter to go back on her word and clarify that there is NOT currently a list of eight potential names.
Sigh. Hopefully, they do as they say and just release the name by the new year.
‘Blue Bloods’ Star Bridget Moynahan Shares Touching Photo as Tribute to 9/11 Anniversary
Saturday, people all across the nation honored and remembered the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. It’s now been 20 years since the horrifying ordeal, but the nation hasn’t forgotten the nearly 3,000 people who sacrificed their lives.
“Blue Bloods” star Bridget Moynahan joined the thousands of people who honored the 20th anniversary on social media. She posted a beautiful photo of the New York City skyline on Twitter and Instagram, with bright lights illuminating the spot where the Twin Towers used to stand.
“20 years #neverforget,” Moynahan captioned the post earlier.
According to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum’s website, a group of eighty-eight 7,000-watt xenon lightbulbs light up the sky every year on 9/11. They take on the shape and space of the original Twin Towers. The installation can also be seen for 60 miles in any direction.
