After BarStool Sports mocked Patrick Mahomes’ fiancee, the Kansas City faithful stepped to her defense.

The issue began after Browns linebacker Mack Wilson hit Mahomes in the third quarter of the divisional round of the playoffs. Team doctors pulled Mahomes off the field and subsequently put him into concussion protocol. Though he’d miss the rest of the game and fans and analysts worried about the severity of the injury. Chad Henne was able to step in and take control of the game to lead the Chiefs to the win over Cleveland. But Mahomes health was the story from that game.

While coach Andy Reid and others said Mahomes would be fine in time for the Bills game on Sunday, analysts and fans worried.

Enter Barstool Sports. The popular sports site decided to post a collection of videos taken from Brittany Murphy’s social media accounts. She screams and yells for her fiancé from the sidelines.

They captioned the video, “Mahomes is never going to recover from this concussion.”

Chiefs fans weren’t having it.

“This is just gross. Might want to stop demonizing women for no gd reason if you really want to position yourselves as a gender-inclusive sports community,” one person posted.

“GTFOH. Mahomes has said he loves how she hypes him up and supports him. Watch an interview. It’s not like she runs around screaming all the damn time. She’s good. Find something better to do than rip on her for cheering on her man,” someone else replied to the video.

It didn’t long for Matthews to notice the replies and all the support coming from Chiefs fans.

Mahomes, Chiefs Will Play Brady, Bucs in Super Bowl

It was all for naught anyway. Patrick Mahomes returned in the AFC Championship Game and dismantled the Buffalo Bills to return to the Super Bowl. The 25-year-old future of the NFL will take on Tom Brady, who held that title for nearly two decades now.

Kansas City had the best record in the league at 14-2 this season. The reigning champs are trying to become the first team since Tom Brady’s New England Patriots to win back-to-back Super Bowls. Only seven teams (including the Pittsburgh Steelers, who did it twice) have ever accomplished the feat. Further, only two teams — the Patriots and the Denver Broncos –have won consecutive titles after the 1994 season. That’s when the league installed a salary cap.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, the game will be played in Tampa Bay. It’s the first time the host team has made it to the Super Bowl. Super Bowl LV is scheduled for February 7th, at 6:30 p.m. EST.
