During the Baltimore Ravens and Buffalo Bills matchup last night, quarterback Lamar Jackson took a massive blow to the head.
In the third quarter, Jackson ended up snapping his head back and hitting the ground in the end zone during the final play of the quarter.
Lamar Jackson Injury, Kindness Follows
He was told he could not return for the final quarter of the game. As a result, the Bills won 17-3. The NFL MVP had a literally painful end to him and the Ravens’ semi-successful season.
“He’s frustrated. He’s doing good. He said he’s fine from the concussion but he’s frustrated that we were that close and that we didn’t get to finish drives. He’s the ultimate competitor. He doesn’t like to lose,” Baltimore wide receiver Willie Snead IV said, according to ESPN.
Now, in a heartwarming act of kindness and sportsmanship, the #BillsMafia is donating to Lamar Jackson’s favorite charity. Despite the Bills getting the win last night, fans still recognize the outstanding talent of Jackson. In this season alone he threw 49 touchdowns and no interceptions in the 20-yard line.
One Bills fan wrote, “@Lj_era8 is one of my favorite players in the league and even though my team won, the league is better with him healthy and playing well. I hope he recovers soon, and his charity is pretty sweet. Easy donation.”
On Reddit, a fan found his favorite charity and led a mass of fans to donate. Ravens fans also started to donate after seeing the act of outstanding sportsmanship.
Blessings in a Backpack Donations
Fans have been donating to Blessings in a Backpack. The goal of the organization is to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children who would otherwise have nothing to eat.
According to their official site, closures caused by COVID-19 led to a rise in unemployment and poverty. It is estimated that 18 million children are experiencing food insecurity. So, donating to this organization is as important as ever.
Lamar Jackson donated $25,000 to the charity at one point and has long voiced his support of their mission.
Many fans are choosing to donate $8 since this is Jackson’s jersey number. It is unclear how much fans have donated at this point in time.
However, back in November, Bills fans were able to donate over $200,000 to support Oishei Children’s Hospital. It was a way of honoring Josh Allen’s grandmother who passed away.
