New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton had a fumble late in the game against the Buffalo Bills that cost his team a chance at a game-tying field goal and possibly a chance to win.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Newton said the fumble late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 24-21 road loss to the Bills was “unacceptable.”
“I gotta protect the ball better. I know that has just been kind of like a broken record of late,” Newton said.
The costly turnover came when Newton had the ball stripped away by Bills defensive tackle Justin Zimmer at the Buffalo 14-yard line with 31 seconds left. It was Newton’s only turnover of the game. However, it comes after a week during which he harped on taking better care of the ball following an outing with three interceptions in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
“I am still jeopardizing this team’s success because of my lackluster performance of protecting the football. Coach trusts me with the ball in his hand and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I just have to do a better job protecting it,” Newton said after his Patriots dropped to 2-5 with their fourth loss in a row.
Cam Newton Fumble Has Twitter Losing It
Barstool Sports Twitter account tweeted out a video of the game-losing fumble with the caption “Oh, no Cam Newton.”
One fan on Twitter sent a tweet reassuring his followers that he still has faith (although he may be losing it) in the New England quarterback.
“I still have faith in Cam Newton. I still have faith in Cam Newton,” he wrote.
Another fan sent out a hilarious video. It contained a little girl crying, followed by her accidentally firing a nerf gun at her forehead.
“Patriots fans after seeing Cam Newton fumble,” he said.
