Chris Hogan Says Rob Gronkowski Would Dominate in Pro Lacrosse League

Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski’s former Patriots teammate Chris Hogan knows lacrosse. And the former Patriots receiver says Gronkowski would make an excellent lacrosse player.

Gronkowski could be a great crossover athlete, Hogan told TMZ Sports in a new interview.

Rob Gronkowski is Gifted Athlete, Would Make Good Lacrosse Player

“I mean, Gronk would be a force to be reckoned with, man,” Hogan said. “I don’t know how you would be able to take the ball away from him. He’s such a physically gifted person and athlete.”

“I think if he were to pick up a stick and put a little training into it,” Hogan added, “I think he’d be a great lacrosse player.”

Hogan, 33, is no slouch himself. He was a first team all-conference star at Penn State and captain of the lacrosse team before he transferred to Monmouth University for football, per TMZ.

And now Hogan is rediscovering lacrosse. He declared for the Premier Lacrosse League Entry Draft earlier this month, according to Sports Illustrated. One of the league’s eight teams will be able to pick him.

Chris Hogan Returns to Lacrosse

“I have signed with @premierlacrosse for the 2021 season,” Hogan tweeted on Feb. 13. “As many of you know, my roots are in lacrosse, and I’m excited to fight for a roster spot with the best in the world!”

Hogan racked up 57 goals and 14 assists in 43 career games with the Nittany Lions in his youth. But then he transferred, playing a single season at Monmouth before he joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

He would later play for the New York Giants, Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills before he signed with the New England Patriots in 2016. While with the Patriots, he got 107 receptions, 1.651 yards and 12 touchdowns over the course of three seasons.

More recently, Hogan had played for the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets. He suffered a sprained ankle last October, which has since healed.

While he left lacrosse for football, Hogan has never forgotten his former sport. And he says his lacrosse stints are the perfect bookends to his football career.

“I think always in the back of my mind when I was playing football,” Hogan told TMZ. “It seemed like this would be a cool way to kind of tie off the end of my career.”

Hogan is not ruling out a return to the NFL. But for right now, his focus is on lacrosse.

“Where I’m at in my career and just how kinda things evolved over the last year, it kind of seemed like this would be a pretty unique opportunity to go back to lacrosse,” he said.
