Colin Kaepernick’s Netflix Series Production Dealing With COVID-19 Outbreak

Nine Crew members working on the Colin Kaepernick Netflix series have tested positive for the coronavirus. According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the cases occurred on the Netflix production at 18421 S Main St in Gardena, CA.

Colin in Black & White is currently in the pre-production stage of filming. Despite the nine new cases, the show’s filming will move forward. The Netflix series will be an autobiographical story of Kaepernick during his high school years and his road to the NFL and activism. Jaden Michael will star as the football player, and Mary Louise Parker and Nick Offerman will play Kaepernick’s parents.

Colin Kaepernick To Serve as Executive Producer & Narrator on Show

In a release in June, Kaepernick described his thoughts on the creation of the show.

“Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens,” Kaepernick said. “We seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black people face. We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community, during my high school years. It’s an honor to bring these stories to life in collaboration with Ava for the world to see.”

Along with Ava DuVernay, Kaepernick will serve as producer of the show. In addition, Kaepernick will also be the narrator.

“With his act of protest, Colin Kaepernick ignited a national conversation about race and justice with far-reaching consequences for football, culture and for him, personally,” DuVernay said in a release. “Colin’s story has much to say about identity, sports and the enduring spirit of protest and resilience.”

After spending six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Kaepernick has not played in an NFL game since 2016. Kaepernick received worldwide attention after kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice. Even though the move was physically subtle, it created a massive debate about the national anthem and protesting in America. As of now, Kaepernick has worked out, but not been signed by a team.
