Conor McGregor, Manager of Khabib Nurmagomedov Fight on Twitter Over Potential Rematch

UFC superstar Conor McGregor recently had some words on social media for the reigning lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It’s been quite the Christmas for “The Notorious” McGregor. The former UFC champ spent the early part of the day celebrating the holiday with family. He also announced the news that his fiancé is pregnant with their third child.

However, it wasn’t all just Christmas cheer for McGregor. He also found the time to get in a little Christmas jeer. In a series of since-deleted posts on Twitter, McGregor again calls for a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov. He also made sure to sneak in a shot at the reigning UFC lightweight champion’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz.

McGregor took to Twitter on Saturday to write, “MeDanaAliGonnaGetcha.” The tweet hints that UFC President Dana White, Abdelaziz, and McGregor will convince the Russian star to come out of retirement.

Nurmagomedov is currently the sport’s reigning lightweight champion. However, after defeating contender Justin Gaethje in October, “The Eagle” announced that he was retiring from fighting. Nurmagomedov said he couldn’t continue on without his father, who passed away prior to his fight against Gaethje.

Since the announcement, both White and Abdelaziz have expressed optimism that the champ could potentially fight again in the future. The plan is for Nurmagomedov to meet with White next month to discuss his future in the UFC.

Nurmagomedov got the best of McGregor in their first fight. However, the UFC president has long claimed that a rematch between “The Eagle” and “The Notorious,” would be the most lucrative in the history of the sport.

More from the Conor McGregor Exchange With Ali Abdelaziz

Meanwhile, it didn’t take long for McGregor to take some personal shots at Nurmagomedov’s manager. McGregor wrote on Twitter that “Robert Earl Britton is The Man!” Britton is an alias Abdelaziz illegally had in 2001. He was later found guilty in Colorado of criminal impersonation and was issued 90-days of unsupervised probation.

Abdelaziz must have taken the tweet personally. He quoted the tweet and sent a reply saying, “Wrong the #Eagle is.”

His reply included a photo taken shortly after Nurmagomedov beat McGregor by submission in the fourth round of their UFC 229 headliner back in October 2018. The photo was captured right before the infamous post-fight brawl.

The exchange continued, as Abdelaziz would again quote the tweet shortly after. This time he told McGregor, “You will never be champ again because I have army waiting for you 155/170.” He then listed off the names of a number of high-profile MMA clients in the lightweight and welterweight divisions.

Some of the names include Justin Gaethje, reigning UFC champ Kamaru Usman, Gilbert Burns, Khamzat Chimaev, Islam Makhachev, Beneil Dariush, Belal Muhammad, and Vicente Luque. He ended his message by saying, “Nurmagomedov broke your mental.”

McGregor had one last message for the recently-retired UFC champ. He said that it is “Decision time for the 🦆.” Calling Nurmagomedov a “duck” is likely suggesting the Russian is ducking a potential rematch. It could also be a play on the claim made that Nurmagomedov is the GOAT – MMA’s greatest of all-time.

For now, Conor McGregor is on schedule to compete against the No. 2-ranked lightweight Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 257 on January 23, 2021. The winner of the showdown will presumably earn a title shot.
