Troy Aikman cast his line out in an all-new direction and has only one regret — he wishes he’d done it sooner.
Aikman is a former football quarterback and Hall of Famer who played for the Dallas Cowboys for 12 seasons. He was an all-around legend that helped define the franchise with success.
Now that he’s retired, he’s found success elsewhere as well. This time it was in Aspen, Colorado when he caught his first rainbow trout.
The ex-Cowboys player explained how Babe Laufenberg used to invite him to go fishing with his family all the time. He never really thought it would be something he’d have an interest in so he continuously turned down that offer. Troy Aikman says that’s “a decision I now regret.”
He posted a photo on Instagram alongside his two daughters while out on a fishing trip. He wrote, “Today I took my two daughters fishing and I caught my first rainbow trout. I can’t help but think Luke was watching from above and knowing how special these moments are for a dad brought me some good luck,” Aikman said.
Laufenberg is also a former professional football quarterback. He played for the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, and Kansas City Chiefs.
His son, Luke, sadly died when he was 21 from lymphoma.
The two players have remained friends following their football days. Aikman is married to Catherine Mooty, an owner of a high-end fashion retailer. In honor of Luke, his daughters, and Laufenberg, Troy Aikman is trying to experience life in new ways.
Troy Aikman Quarantine Life
Besides getting out in nature with his family, Troy Aikman has been using his time recently to get into good shape when he’s not announcing NFL games.
Aikman has been on FOX Sports’ NFL broadcast team since 2001.
He’s even saying that he’s in the absolute best shape of his life. This is interesting given the fact that he was once a three-time Super Bowl champion in the 1990s. He spent 12 years in the NFL and is now 54, but is as healthy as ever before.
“When you say you’re in the best shape of your life, usually what that means is that you’re old … You don’t hear 20-year-olds saying, ‘I’m in the best shape of my life!’ But I feel really good. I think it’s as healthy as I’ve ever been, physically, mentally and emotionally,” Troy Aikman said to GQ in January.
A lot of the change has been to his diet. He said he’s cut out sweets and has an all-new infatuation with a juicer. He’s also been meditating for about eight years and has gone on a few retreats.
All in all, Aikman has managed to work on his mind, body, and soul all at once.
