On Saturday, ESPN’s Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that the Denver Broncos will have zero eligible quarterbacks on Sunday due to COVID-19 exposure.

Schefter reported that all three eligible quarterbacks have been deemed high-risk close contacts. Therefore, none will be allowed to suit up for Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The quarterbacks include starter Drew Lock, and backups Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles.

Previously, backup quarterback Jeff Driskel tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. Per the NFL’s precautionary rules, the team placed him on the reserve/COVID-19 list the same day.

During a series of tweets explaining the situation, Schefter joked about legendary Broncos QB and current general manager John Elway coming out of retirement. In addition, the reporter said that the Broncos will not be forfeiting and plan on playing without a quarterback.

“Broncos will not be forfeiting, per source. Short of luring GM John Elway out of retirement, it sets up as the most unexpected NFL scene of 2020. Broncos have no QBs for a game against the Saints,” Schefter wrote on Twitter.

Schefter went on to explain that all three Broncos quarterbacks made contact with Driskel while not wearing masks.

“Here’s how Denver got wiped out at the QB position in a 72-hour span: QB Jeff Driskel tested positive for COVID on Thursday. Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles did not wear masks, per a source, and were deemed high-risk close contacts today. They now are out Sunday,” Schefter tweeted.

Broncos Have Zero Eligible QB’s, Twitter Has Jokes

As news broke of Denver’s chaotic quarterback situation, NFL fans on Twitter couldn’t help themselves. In fact, they started to immediately post all types of humorous suggestions for who should fill in at QB for tomorrow’s game, including themselves.

Numerous fans on social media hilariously shared their not-so-impressive quarterback resumes and offered to play against the Saints.

A Twitter user named Evan made fun of the team’s poor quarterback play throughout the season. According to him, there won’t be much of a difference on Sunday. Additionally, another fan took it one step further and said the team hasn’t had a solid QB in four years.

A fan named Nick is looking for Al Bundy from Married… with Children to suit up and get a win.

In addition, one Twitter user is looking to get the dog from the movie Air Bud to fill in at the position on Sunday.

Finally, Adam Sandler’s The Waterboy character has also been suggested as a possible replacement.
