Can there be a spoiler alert for live football games? Dick’s Sporting Goods seems to think so, as they announced Georgia as the winners of the National Championship midway through the game.

Per On3, the sporting goods store promoted National Championship merchandise featuring the Georgia Bulldogs with over 12 minutes remaining in the game. At the time, the Dawgs trailed Alabama 18-13. Dick’s Sporting Goods sent out a tweet at 11 p.m. EST, posting a graphic of Georgia’s “victory” gear.

“Take the title back to the hedges,” Dick’s tweeted. “Celebrate the victory and purchase your official Georgia Bulldogs champions gear online at DICK’S Sporting Goods.”

Though Dicks’s deleted the telling tweet, you can see it here. It was still up at 11:25 p.m. EST last night when Georgia overtook the lead from Alabam. They ended up winning the National Championship 33-18, making huge progress in just those 12 remaining minutes.

We’ll never know whether Dick’s Sporting Goods knew that would happen or if they just accidentally published the tweet early. But they definitely got a head start on promoting their National Championship merchandise, which included 336 different products featuring the Georiga Dawgs.

Georgia Player Accidentally Receives Alabam Hat at National Championship

In another National Championship mixup, Georgia Dawgs player Nakobe Dean received the wrong championship hat from officials after the game. It seems last night was full of these errors, as ESPN caught a picture of Dean toting the Alabama-themed championship hat.

Officials quickly fixed the issue, and later, Dean posted a pic of the Georgia-themed National Championship hat. He handled it all with grace and class, just like he did in the game.

College football fans agreed, taking to the comments on Dean’s post to congratulate him and the Dawgs on their victory. “@nakobe doesn’t need a hat to prove what a champion he is. Class act #butkusaward winner!” one person commented on his post.

One very excited fan said, “YOU’LL ALWAYS BE A TOP DAWG IN OUR EYES YOUNG MAN!!! CONGRATS AND THANKS!!! GO YOU NATIONAL CHAMPION DAWGS!!!”

“But you got the trophy!! Wish you the best. Thanks for being a DGD and Dawgnation hopes you return, but the NFL is getting a d*** good LB,” a different fan said.

“Congrats on winning at the next level kid! 2 (high school & college) down, 1 to go!” someone else wrote. Another fan followed up and said, “All that’s left is for him to win a Super Bowl.”

The future’s looking bright for Dean, who won the Butkus Award this season and is predicted to be a first-round pick for the 2022 NFL draft. The Georgia linebacker recorded four tackles for the National Championship game, per Sports Illustrated.
