The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers are in the middle of an already exciting NLCS with a trip to the World Series on the line. However, Braves outfielder Joc Pederson and his pearl necklace are once again stealing the show.

If you didn’t watch the first two games of the NLCS, you’ve missed out, my friends. Both games have come down to the wire with Atlanta winning in walk-off fashion in each. That gives the NL East champs a 2-0 head start in the seven-game series. Yet as intense as the NLCS has been, there’s one thing that is on every baseball fans’ mind in recent history – why is Joc Pederson wearing pearls??

The 29-year-old outfielder is known for being a bit eclectic. He’s frequently seen entering Truist Park in stylish outfits and he dyed his hair platinum blonde earlier in the season. But in recent weeks, his pearl necklace has been an amusing topic of conversation.

After two stellar games already for Pederson against his former team, the pearls are catching on in a big way. In fact, Braves legend Chipper Jones even joined the conversation today when someone left a set of pearls outside of his home.

“I guess Joc Pederson stopped and left me a present before he left for LA. That was awfully nice of him,” Chipper Jones joked on Instagram.

As many of Chipper Jones’ fans know, he’s an avid outdoorsman. During his long career as Atlanta’s third baseman, and especially since retirement, Jones has always made time to hunt, fish, and simply spend time outdoors. Here at Outsider, we definitely understand his need to get away from the ballpark on occasion and get back to nature. But it’s safe to say that Pederson’s pearl necklace won’t be around Chipper’s neck while he’s bowhunting anytime soon.

Joc Pederson and the Ongoing Mystery of the Pearl Necklace

One of the best storylines in the Atlanta-L.A. matchup revolves around Pederson and his ties to the Dodgers. Pederson was an integral part of the Dodgers’ rise to the top of National League rankings in recent years. Joc Pederson and the Dodgers made it to the championship series three of the last four seasons. And they finally broke through last season and won the World Series. Further, they had to go through Atlanta to do it.

In the offseason, Pederson left L.A. for the Chicago Cubs after the 29-year-old spent his entire career with the Dodgers. However, a mid-season trade brought Joc to Atlanta, and he’s now facing his old team in the NLCS. But he’s got a much-talked-about secret weapon in his (possibly) lucky pearl necklace. Pederson started wearing the pearls during the Braves’ Sept. 29th game against the Philadelphia Phillies.

When asked about the pearls the following game, Pederson simply called it “a mystery” as his team celebrated winning the NL East. While we haven’t received many answers since, even his old Dodgers teammates are asking him, “What’s up with the pearls?”

We may never get a clear origin story about the necklace, but Joc Pederson did tell FOX Sports reporter Kelly Price where he got them.

“I saw some and thought they looked cooler than the black or gold chains. So I texted my jeweler, got some, and it kind of took off,” Pederson said.

We’re sure Braves fans don’t care what kind of necklace he wears as long he keeps up this kind of production. And who knows? We may even see Chipper Jones wearing some as the NLCS continues.
