Wade’s tweet is referring to Golden State Warrior superstar point guard Stephen Curry and Brooklyn Nets stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Those players along with the rest of the NBA returned to the hardwood last week for the preseason. The NBA 2020-2021 regular season is set to begin on Tuesday, Dec. 22.

This season will be the NBA’s 75th year on record. While the previous season was marred by the COVID-19 pandemic, NBA officials say they did learn from the experience. This season will feature a 72 game schedule for teams instead of the traditional 82 games.

League and team officials will have to be diligent in enforcing coronavirus protocols to keep themselves and others healthy. NBA officials say steps to prevent the spread of the deadly disease are a top priority.

The playoffs are tentatively set to run under the standard 16-team playoff format between May 22 and July 22. Last year’s league playoffs took place in a “bubble” in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The Los Angeles Lakers would eventually prevail and capture the NBA championship, defeating Wade’s old team, the Miami Heat. Lebron James won the finals Most Valuable Player.
