Former NFL Star Troy Aikman Demands Justice for SMU Student Killed on Halloween

by Will Shepard

Former NFL quarterback, Troy Aikman, is demanding that 19-year-old student Robert “Jaden” Urrea’s killers are brought to justice. Outside a strip of bars near Southern Methodist University (SMU), Urrea was fatally shot.

Halloween night’s festivities came screeching to a halt after the news that an SMU student was killed. As per TMZ, police reports from 3 am tell the story of the murder.

The outlet reports that police officers in surveillance video of the incident could see Urrea interacting with a white, 4-door vehicle. Suddenly, the car speeds away as Urrea falls to the ground.

Since Aikman found out about the story, he has been campaigning for justice for the SMU student. Now an announcer for FOX Sports, Aikman’s platform will certainly shed more light on this case.

Aikman Shows Support

Former Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback, Aikman tweeted in support for the Urrea family and Jaden on Wednesday. The Hall of Famer made it explicitly clear what he wants to happen.

In his plea for justice, Aikman provided some details about the car that is suspected of killing the young man. After Aikman shared pertinent information for providing any tips or information on the shooting, tweets began flooding in. Unfortunately, no tips via Twitter as of yet, but this level of awareness is only helpful.

TMZ, in their coverage of the story, offered the Urrea family’s words on the killing of their son. Reporting that, “[Jaden was] maliciously shot in the chest at close range … and they claim the violent act was completely unprovoked. We strongly believe this was a drive-by shooting, unprovoked, committed by complete strangers”.

Indeed, a sad way to cap off Halloween, the family is grieving the loss of their son. And, to be clear, the Dallas Police Department is searching hard for the car as well as the passengers.
