Jack Nicklaus voted for Donald Trump and he thinks you should too. In a lengthy statement posted to his Twitter page only a few days out from the Nov. 3 election, the legendary golfer explained why he’s endorsing the president.

“This is not a personality contest, it’s about patriotism, policies and the people they impact,” he wrote. “(Trump’s) love for America and its citizens, and putting his country first, has come through loud and clear. How he has said it has not been important to me. What has been important are his actions. Now, you have the opportunity to take action.”

The 18-time major winner said that voting for Democrat Joe Biden would lead to “socialist America.” He acknowledged that there were some traits of Trump’s personality that he didn’t agree with, but the president had kept his word from the 2016 campaign.

“He has delivered on his promises. He’s worked for the average person. In my opinion, he has been more diverse than any president I have seen and has tried to help people from all walks of life—equally. […] I also believe that Donald Trump’s policies will bring the American Dream to many families across the nation who are still trying to achieve it.”

Trump pinned Nicklaus’ tweet.

Nicklaus, an Ohio-native, is a longtime backer of Republican causes. He endorsed Trump in 2016, CBS reported at the time.

“I like what Donald has done,” Jack Nicklaus said in 2016. “He’s turning America upside-down. [He’s] awakening the country. Is he as smooth and as politically correct as he should be? Probably not. But he’ll learn. He’s not stupid. He didn’t get where he was being dumb. I like the guy. He’s a good man. If he’s the one that’s on the ticket, then I’ll be voting for him. “

Twitter Reacts after Jack Nicklaus Endorses Trump

The Golden Bear’s tweet wasn’t so golden. Twitter slammed the former golfing champ in his replies, which was almost entirely negative.

Though there were a few positive replies.
